California Summer Dress

California Summer, cali summer style, summer style, street fashion, summer fashion, laura lily, los angeles fashion blogger, los angeles summer style,
I try never to take for granted the fact that I live in one of the most beautiful places in the world: Los Angeles. May has only just begun and already we have summer weather here in the high 80′s and low 90′s. The BBQ’s and days by the pool have started yay! My mom mentioned to me the other day how nice it must be to sit at a baseball game and not be eaten alive by mosquitos. n case some of you did not know, I am originally from Minnesota so I know what a humid, bug infested summer feels like…trust me.
For any causal day, I love to throw on a comfortable pair of shorts and a t-shirt. To make it extra fashionable, add lots of color and fun accessories. This is the feature of my new  Hudson messenger bag. To put it lightly, I am obsessed. I received a JustFab gift card from Luckyfabb and even though I was tempted by all of the shoes on the website, I just had to have this bag. It is a perfect go to, everyday piece! It also looks a lot like the Proenza Schouler bag that costs a LOT more.  Looking forward to lots of summer dresses and outdoor parties! What is your favorite summer outfit?

Summer Collection

During the last few months, I feel like I’ve been stuck on an episode of What Not To Wear.
Between breaking a leg, losing ten pounds, and weather that is more moody than your PMSing sister, a girl can’t seem to get her act together.  One day it’s 95 degrees and then next 59.  Jean shorts and simple t-shirts are a great staple but it feels weird to wear them well.
If you are going to be lounging around the house for a few days, or weeks, comfort is key. There are days that I just wore leggings and long sweaters. It was great. But when I had to get out of the house, I needed inspiration.
What did I do in the midst of my sartorial woes?
I went to Pinterest and started pinning to my “Always|Beautiful” board, where I collect images and ideas that are classy and attainable.   As you can tell, I’m smitten with plaid, tall boots, and chambray.
Here are a few looks that always work well –
lazy days fashion
This look works well because it’s fresh, modern, and classy all at the same time. We all have various thoughts of leggings-as-pants but the length of the chambray shirt keeps everything covered.  You can get a chambray shirt (yes, it’s denim but think of soft, supple denim) from Target, JCrew, or a thrift store (which is where I got mine).  Pair it with low boots and you’ve got it made. Or in my case, pair it with one boot. I bought a great black pair from Espirit so I could relearn how to walk evenly.
striped tee and blazer
Stripes and blazers are any girl’s best friends. Even if she has to pair them with a ten pound walking cast. Choosing pieces that give you the appearance of looking together will help you feel put together, even when all you want to do is curl up and cry. Dress for the part. Whatever it may be.
fall outfit
Neutral colors and classy lines can cover a multitude of sins. Accessories will make or break your outfit. If you do have a broken leg, make sure that you are comfortable hobbling around in a dress…and that the neckline isn’t low enough that you aren’t flashing people when you lean over on your crutches. Let’s call that a lesson learned.
classy white pants
Long pants are amazing. If you can get something with a wide-leg, pull them on as quickly as possible. You’ll be surprised how comfortable they are and how nice it feels hide your cast. White still works in Texas, even if it is dangerously close to Christmas, but you may want to adapt the look for where you are. I highly recommend the “Artist Tee” line from J. Crew for the shirts. To winterize the look, just add a scarf!
Because the weather is so peculiar, there’s no chance for packing away “summer clothes” in Texas. All you need to do is add layers. Take one of your favorite summer sundresses and pair it with your new boyfriend cardigan. Add leggings or tights and whatever comfortable shoes you can find. Voila! New look without having to go shopping all over again.

Those are just a few of the looks that I tried out while my broken leg was healing. The next challenge for me will be “how to wear a jean dress without looking like a complete homeschooler stereotype” and “how to survive the holiday parties while wearing flats.”

Long Summer Dresses

Time for long summer dresses

With the Texas heat and sun ready to make its almost unbearable everyday appearance, it is time to pull out all of the summer clothes. The shorts, tank tops, swim suits and summer dresses. I for one have always loved long summer dresses.
Long summer dresses are feminine and easy to wear, I like the feel of the light weight fabric softly skimming my bare legs as I walk around taking care of errands, shopping or just out with my husband.
I like most women lead a busy lifestyle and am usually running my errands in jeans or other casual clothing. Apart from work clothes, I rarely wear a dress, but during the summer months I make good use of my long summer dresses.

The good thing about long dresses is that they can hide a few figure flaws if need be, like the ones with more flowing material for the fuller figure or the form fitting ones that can enhance a good figure. There is the halter type that look good on just about everyone. I like the dresses with a low back.

For everday I usually buy a few of the less expensive and a couple for social events. As for what shoes to wear with long summer dresses, it can be anything from flip flops, sandals or stappy heels for an evening out.
They are also easy to take care of, usually wash and wear, some may need a little ironing but I have never had to iron one. They are good to take on trips. I can just roll them up and put them in a suit case. When I get to my destination, I just put them on a hanger and they are ready to wear.
Sometimes summer dresses are a nice change from running around in shorts, cutoffs or jeans. Add a couple of summer dresses to your wardrobe.

Warehouse Spring Summer

This week I was luckily enough to be asked along to a preview of the Spring Summer 13 collection in a very swanky penthouse in the Morgan Hotel, and all I can say is, roll on the summer sun so I can wear some of the gorgeous new ranges without fear of getting frostbite!

The ‘Spotted At’ campaign shot by Frederike Helwig, uses the city as a backdrop and takes you from sunrise to sunset in pieces that were simply made to be worn in the city in summer. The ‘Spotted At’ campaign also encourages shoppers to get involved with the launch of it’s app that allows you to see a film clip of the clothes in the display window, simple aim your phone at an item of clothing you like to see a model wearing it around the streets of London! Scan the QR code in store windows or download the Warehouse app from Itunes for free now!

Personally, my favourites were the Arizona collection which features gorgeous indie pieces complete with fringing, photographic prints and parma violet tones, the Architect collection which shirt dresses, sleeveless boyfriend jackets and drawstring waists were made for chilled beer garden wear and the Rock Muse collections that rocks the gypsy folk look and features  embroidered denim and amazing jumpsuits.

Sun-Dress-5

While we are enjoying the transition between spring and summer, we can show off our Spring-Summer mix-up styles. While some states are spending their April bundled up in coats and scarves, Arizona residents can already flaunt their spring and summer wardrobe. The fashion choices in Arizona are very different and distinctive as we are free to mix pieces from different seasons and dress to impress.

Leopard & Stripes

I'm guilty of opting for a pair of heels over any flat. However, these Yosi Samra flats have completely changed my outlook and I've been practically living in these leopard loafers. There unbelievably comfortable and match with nearly any outfit. I wore this out this past weekend while out shopping and discovering new restaurants; one of my favorite spots being the Phoenix Public Market. If you're in the area I would highly recommend checking it out!

Summer Boots

Summer Boots-Ankle Boots-Personal Style Blog-Golden Divine-Blog-Ashley-Murphy

Ironically enough, as the weather gets warmer I become more and more fixated on growing my collection of ankle boots. Even though ankle boots are often associated with the cooler months I can't get enough of them for summer; especially with cool cut out detailing. They pair perfectly with cut off shorts for a casual look or with a floral dress for an extra edge.
These summer booties are currently on the top of my wish list:
